Congress sessions, estimated and effective number of reservations received so far, and relating room. This table does not include the schedule for keynote speeches, as they are listed on the main programme overview page.

Content and Language
Speakers are fully responsible for the content of the presentation (order, graphics, etc.). All presentations and questions must be in English, as English is the official language of the congress. Some keynotes may be delivered in Italian and will be professionally translated.

Keynote

Each Keynote presentation will be 45 minutes long plus questions and comments from the audience, and will take place on a specific day and time as listed in the congress sessions list. A keynote speaker is expected to present information in an effective and original way, engaging the audience and allowing them to view a subject in a different light. Keynote speakers may use videos, pictures, and open ended questions to interact with the audience during their presentation. If you are using slides, we recommend a maximum of 30. A copy of the final version of your presentation should also be uploaded on the slide submission page. The recommended file type to be used for presentations is PowerPoint or Portable Document Format (PDF).

Regular presentation in a parallel session

Each presentation will be 15 minutes long, and will take place on a specific day and time as listed in the congress sessions list. The recommended number of slides for your presentation is 15. We recommend spending 12 minutes presenting and 3 minutes for discussion or questions. The available equipment will be a PC, a projector and microphones. The PC will have sound to facilitate the use of DVD clips or videos.  The session PCs will have access to the Internet.
The recommended file type to be used for presentations is PowerPoint or Portable Document Format (PDF). If, for any reason, you want to use your own computer for the presentation, the video projector will have an HDMI video connector and a mini-jack for audio input. Make sure you bring the correct adapter for your computer. Volunteers will be present in your room to translate your presentation into Italian if requested.

Please keep strictly to time and pay attention to the chairperson. He/she who will help you to keep time and will stop once the time is over.

Your presentation file
The presentation files should be brought on a USB, memory stick or a similar memory device. Speakers are requested to upload their presentation on to the session PC and report to the session chair 5 minutes before the start of the session. A copy of the final version of your presentation should also be uploaded on the slide submission page.

During the presentation
All presenters will be introduced to the audience by the session chair.  The audience should respect the speaker’s time and wait until the end of speech before asking questions. Audience members should not interrupt or distract the speakers, to ensure the best possible atmosphere for concentration. The audience should always show the maximum respect to other peoples’ presentations. We don’t need to all think the same way, but we do need to be respectful.
Don’t read from the slide – vary your choice of words. Don’t talk to the screen; maintain eye contact with the audience. Use a laser pointer to indicate salient features of the slide as you speak. Speak loudly and clearly.

Recommendations to make a good oral presentation
Your contents should be clearly structured as recommended in the call for paper (for example: title, introduction, methods, results, discussion, etc.). Presentations should not contain full paragraphs of text. Use keywords, pictures or outline format and elaborate on the points in your talk. Every slide should contain a title that summarizes the information presented on the slide. Create a logical flow for your presentation.

Keep it simple, and don’t read your presentation word for word from your slides – this bores the audience.
Fill out a storyboard before you begin to put your presentation together. It will help it to stay structured, relevant and things will get done faster.

Graphical layouts
Use large fonts, as big as realistically possible. Small fonts are hard to read. Use contrasting colours – for example either a dark background with light text or a light background with dark text. Avoid busy backgrounds that will make the text hard to read. Keep the background simple. Limit your graphics to 1-3 per page. Too many graphics can be distracting. Avoid all CAPITAL LETTERS IN YOUR TEXT. It will look like you’re shouting. Include a good combination of words, pictures, and graphics. Variety keeps the presentation interesting. Slides are designed to supplement your presentation, not to BE your presentation.

Workshop

Workshops last 1 hours and take place on a specific day and time as listed in the congress sessions list.

Workshops may contain a short didactic, lecture-style, slides-based presentation. This is a good way to make the discussion portions more interactive and engage the audience on a specific subject. Please see the parallel session recommendation above for instructions about your slides. A copy of the final version of your slides should also be uploaded on the slide submission page. The recommended file type to be used for presentations is PowerPoint or Portable Document Format (PDF).

Workshops are expected to provide practical activities in a particular field connected to the education of Children and young people with physical or mental health issues. They can also stimulate debate or discussion among a small audience. Active audience participation utilizing options such as break-out groups and polling is essential. Workshop rooms will have tables arranged in a horseshoe and can accomodate up to 45 people. It is a good idea to provide handout during the workshop to give people resources or ideas to carry on the activities once they are back to their school.
